In compliance among the main titles promises – This is indeed an article based upon the “Earth-ship” idea. No Mr. and Mrs. Conspirator and those looking to make parody of the given name by the great Michael Reynolds, this is not, nor has anything to do with spaceships, UFOs, ETs, or the alike. Well, I suppose if there is any sort of correlation between the like, it’s that the aliens are applauding some of us for finally trying to live green.
So our main basis for this entire adventure is to learn and ultimately use the information gained towards building a 100% self-sustaining off the grid home. These homes we come to have stumbled upon are called, you guessed it; Earth-ships.
Wiki Definition:
“An Earth-ship is a type of passive solar house that is made of both natural and recycled materials (such as earth-filled tires), designed and marketed by Earth-ship Biotecture of Taos, New Mexico. The term is a registered trademark of Michael Reynolds.”
In correspondence to the above Wiki Definition, these ‘Biotectures’ are not only a combined natural and recycled structure fixed with green solar energy, but they also include an in-house green-house fit for as many plants as your floor design can fit, and a system for collecting fresh rain water and recycling/filtering it four times. That’s three more times it’s filtered after your half glass of un-used water has been poured down the drain. Next time you need to flush the toilet that previous drinking water is now in there more than two ways ;)
Instead of explaining any further I’ll let these lovely you-tube videos do the rest for you, yet someday I hope to be able to share the full process of our own future Earth-Ship building adventure with you:
